Ross Curle scores for Scotland under 18s

Both Scotland under-18 and Scotland under-18A celebrate victory this afternoon after impressive victories over Boys Club of Wales and Scottish Universities under-20s respectively.

Scotland under-18 kicked came away with a 25-0 win over Boys Club of Wales this afternoon at Myreside, Edinburgh.

After the match Scotland under-18 manager Euan Kennedy said: “It was a positive start to the campaign against a physically tough side. The encouraging thing from a coach’s point of view is that despite many substitutions the pattern of play was not interrupted and there were no obvious weaknesses. We will now reassess things in preparation for our next game against for an English Schools side.

Scotland under-18A marked an 8-5 win over a Scottish Students under-20 side which kicked off at 10.30 this morning at Peffermill, Edinburgh.

What was to be a well balanced match opened with early pressure on Scotland under-18A, however the Scotland team took the lead after 26 minutes with a fine break by centre Alec Jessop which led to a try from winger Scott Hendrie.

Scottish Universities under-20s replied two minutes before half time with a 30 metre solo effort from Oli Brown which levelled the scores at five each after the first half.

The well matched second half culminated in a period of constant pressure from the under-18A side and came close on three occasions but did not penetrate the universities side’s defence.

A last minute penalty in front of the posts was converted by Sandy Service to give Scotland under-18A an 8-5 victory.

Following the game under-18 Coach Grant McKelvey said: “It was a good solid based start to our program. We saw a lot of positives from the game and the hard work the player’s put in on their various core game skills was displayed.”
