Glasgow Hawks outpowered Dundee HSFP in a dour and jittery mid-table tussle, winning 19-10 at stormy Mayfield.
Neither team looked capable of stringing together sequences of flowing rugby, but in the end toppled champions Hawks just deserved their win.
Greg Francis was the men who mattered most, claiming two tries, the other scored by Stevie Gordon and Murray Strang clipping over two goals.
Neil McComb gathered the Taysiders' only touchdown, while Barry Jones kicked a conversion and penalty.
Another feature of the Hawks victory was the first joint appearance or former Scotland star Rory Kerr and brother Jamie. And it was the latter who made the greater impression on the game.
