Spotted on Boroughmuir website--and here was me thinking it was James Adams
The Twos lost in injury time to a strong Hawks team but really lost the match due to an inept first quarter. During that quarter, Hawks scored three easy converted tries to lead 21-0. We stood off them all over the pitch, fell off tackles and let them stroll through with ease.
Then we started to play and play very well. We started to tackle and stopped them playing. They only had the ball for about five minutes of the second quarter. Good flowing rugby and stout defence closed the gap to 19-21 at half time.
In the second half we continued to control the game but Hawks scored again on 56 minutes. A penalty and drop goal from Jamie Davidson and a try from Dougie Scot put us in front at 30-28 with less than ten minutes left.
Hawks then clearly changed tactics and kept the ball tight and used their bigger forwards to make ground. Our defence was still strong and kept them out until a rare second-half error in injury time turned the ball over and a few phases later, a Hawks forward crashed over from short range with three or four bodies attempting the stop. They converted to seal their win.
Again their were many good performances on the day. Neil Wyman, Johnny Adams and Jamie Davidson came on as replacements and impressed. The game was played on the new third pitch and it provided a great surface for this time of the year on a pitch not that much different in size from our first pitch.
It was a good game and well appreciated by the good number of spectators and a pity to lose it with the last play of the match.
