CURRIE have slipped back into the transfer market with the acquisition of another Antipoddean, Evan Haigh, ahead of their crucial Premiership clash with Glasgow Hawks at Malleny Park tomorrow.
Full back Haigh made his first start during last weekend's defeat at Ayr but could be poised for a first run-on role at home against the club Currie seek to depose as champions.
Haigh's emergence was the third time in four weeks Currie have unleashed fresh talent having previously introduced prop John Cox (ex-Rotherham) and earlier Tim Fairbrother, a member of the Wellington Hurricanes Super-14 side who was touring Europe with permission to bolster fitness levels with match practice.
Meanwhile Currie stand off Ally Warnock has distanced himself from a report of an early return to Edinburgh ranks, saying: "Nobody has made an approach to me, which is all I can say.
"My priority is to try to help Currie to the title and, while we may have slipped up in losing at Ayr last weekend having held a ten-point lead with as many minutes to go, the title is still in our own hands.
"If anybody had offered us a five-point lead with three games remaining at the start of the competition we'd have bitten their hand off."
Another incentive for Currie is to overturn a 5-42 defeat in the corresponding fixture at Hawks - a first defeat at the seventh time of asking.
"From 1-19 every player had a bad day so there is a huge incentive to set the record straight," said Warnock.
Undoubtedly any revenge bid will take place in heavy going though the Evening News understands Hawks have been primed to expect late pitch inspections following the recent rain.
