Hawks coach offers Currie title succour

EDINBURGH EVENING NEWS REPORTS
BILL LOTHIAN
CURRIE have been given a vote of confidence in their battle to wrap up the Premiership title - from a victorious opponent.

Fresh from helping cut Currie's lead at the top to a couple of points with two games remaining by coaching Glasgow Hawks to a 27-22 win at Malleny Park, David Wilson said: "I think they should still do it but they have got to believe in their ability."

Indeed, depending on results elsewhere and regardless of any shortcomings they might have, Currie could still be crowned after this Saturday's penultimate game against Heriot's at Goldenacre.

Alternatively, they may have to wait until a home game against Watsonians on January 13.

Currie coach Ally Donaldson took comfort from the fact matters are still in the team's own hands.

"If we win our last two games we win the league. We made too many mistakes and just have to play better."

A couple of conversions and a penalty have left stand off Ally Warnock needing just two more points to complete a double century for the season. This was after Mark Cairns took his try tally to 11 with a brace while Ross Weston hoisted his total to five.

The other Currie try scorer was sub Andrew Reekie but Currie's website today sums it up, saying: "Can't get over the finishing line."
