FROM AYRSHIRE POST

WE CAN WIN IT Dec 20 2006

HISTORY chasing Ayr Rugby Club need the performance of their lives to keep a title dream alive.

With only two games to go, the second top Millbrae men are within touching distance of winning the game+IBk-s greatest prize * the Premier One title.

But on Saturday, they must do something they have never achieved before - beat Glasgow Hawks at Old Anniesland.

Ayr blew the race wide open last weekend when they beat Melrose while title rivals Currie and Watsonians both slipped up.

That cut the gap at the top to only two points and sets up a nerve jangling run-in.

But cautious coach Craig Redpath warns his team that a sniper could be lying in wait.

Redpath said: The game against Hawks is probably a bigger worry than any other game we could have had in this situation.

They have no pressure on them and all they have to do is go out and play rugby whereas we have to make sure we win.

They will be desperate to beat us so we will have to dig deep and look for another first

Skipper Scott Lines, who is in his fourth season at Millbrae, believes the team can go all the way and win the title.

Lines, 32, said: This is the best season the club has ever had. Its up to us to keep winning and put the pressure on Currie who have lost their last two games.

We face a massive two games but the players believe we can go and complete the job.

Ayr will be boosted by a huge travelling support for the trip to Glasgow. And they know a victory will keep the pot boiling for the final game on January 13 at home to fourth top Heriot
