SHOOT-OUT AT THE O.A. CORRAL-THE PENULTIMATE STEP

From Ayr website

The permutations have been worked out, the chances assessed and the outcomes predicted(by the foolish!) so we come to the last Saturday of the Premier 1 campaign in 2006.

The bottom line is simple. Whatever happens elsewhere, if Ayr triumph for the first time at Old Anniesland against Hawks, the title race goes to the last match of the league programme on January 13th.

Can Ayr do it?

“This is our cup final” stated Ayr president Billy McHarg.

“If we go into the final match against Heriots as league leaders, we won’t lose at Millbrae”.

“Certainly the motivation is there but we won’t be thinking beyond getting the win on Saturday” said captain Scott Lines. “This is another huge challenge to the team and we are going for another first but there is a confidence about the side that we can do it because we have pulled of a whole series of firsts this season.”

Coach Craig Redpath was in upbeat mood. “We are looking forward to the game because it is games like this that bring it out of the team.”

“Hawks will be desperate to turn us over and not allow us to do the double over them but we know that if we play to our potential we can get the result that will take us to the last game with a chance of the title.”

“We will miss Gordy Reid and Colin White is injured so the team will be the same as went out against Melrose and we know that we have the capability of getting the win.”

Team:
J McClung; P Gentile, B Colley, N Lavelle, C Taylor; R McCallum, AJ McFarlane;
E Logan, P MacArthur, J Kee, S Lines, D Kelly, E Kellow, P Burke, G Tippett
Subs: S Kerr, S Adair, S Sutherland, R Holland

The confrontation with Currie at Millbrae a couple of weeks ago was an epic match and this one looks likely to be just as memorable.

A huge amount is at stake for Ayr and if you can forsake the last-minute Christmas shopping, get to Old Anniesland for the 3pm kick off. The support could be Ayr’s extra man.
