Currie became Scotland’s champions – a remarkable achievement for a club only founded 36 years ago – when they secured the bonus point necessary from a pulsating encounter at Goldenacre today in a five tries to four 39-26 victory over Heriot’s.
That coupled with the result from Old Anniesland, where Glasgow Hawks edged out Currie’s nearest challengers, Ayr, meant the Malleny Park men had an unassailable lead at the top of Premier Division 1.
When the result from Glasgow came through it was the cue for unbridled celebrations for Currie and the presentation of the championship trophy from SRU President Andy Irvine.
