"The SRU picks up a tidy sum"

THE SCOTSMAN REPORTS
Glasgow staying put, despite wedding clash
GLASGOW have confirmed that their Magners League match with Ulster will go ahead at Hughenden despite the ground hosting a wedding reception on the same date.

Glasgow were forced to switch a game two seasons ago to Anniesland after broadcasters asked them to move a game to suit TV scheduling and Hughenden, which is run by Hillhead Sports Club and rents out facilities, had a prior booking.

Again, Setanta have agreed to televise Glasgow's game with league leaders Ulster provided it is played on Saturday, 6 January, and not the usual Friday night.

The SRU picks up a tidy sum for every televised match and so agreed, but, contrary to speculation suggesting a move elsewhere, and despite the fact the function suite will be used by the wedding reception, it was confirmed that Glasgow were never going to move the game at Hughenden, where it goes ahead with a 5.30pm kick-off as planned.

Sean Lineen, Glasgow's head coach, was unconcerned by the speculation touting other venues, but admitted that playing at Hughenden was important. He said: "We've now had six home wins in a row at Hughenden and want to capitalise on that home advantage as the match against Ulster will be exceptionally tough. The continuity is important to both our players and supporters so we're pleased to be able to plan ahead as usual for our next match at Hughenden."

Glasgow will also be running a supporters bus from Waxy O'Connors in George Square (4pm) to Galashiels for tomorrow's Magners League derby with the Borders (7.30pm). Call Graham Smith on 0141 342 4300 or visit www.glasgowwarriors.com for details.
