Currie blast Xmas lay-off

EDINBURGH EVENING NEWS REPORTS

SCOTTISH rugby bosses are being slammed by new Premiership champions Currie for failing to help clubs cash in on the festive holiday period.

\"For a fortnight over Christmas and New Year there was no discernible rugby match played in Edinburgh, supposedly the bastion of the game in Scotland,\" said an editorial on the official Currie website. Currie say the shut-down is damaging and have put forward a plan to boost finances while knocking a perceived old boys\' networks operating in Edinburgh.

Referring to the Scotland v Ireland amateur international on March 9 in Edinburgh, Currie claim that an opportunity has been missed to boost the selection process while also making it more transparent.

\"Why not get development coaches to invite the appropriate players from the club scene to join a \'clubs select fifteen\' from each of the old districts (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Borders and North-Midlands)? A series would also squash any feelings of favouritism towards players from the more fashionable clubs - the old network (of) \'join our club and we\'ll get you a cap, contract etc.\"
