Cry Me A River!
What a mess! No I am not talking about my general physical condition but the awful situation the Under 15s find themselves in.
We have had a very successful season thus far, well at least up until our last game which was played on the 12th November! Yep, that's right 12 th November. If ever there was an argument to play summer rugby this has to bolster it.
Our U 15s team is (and I say this modestly) one of the most talented junior teams that Hawks have produced. This season the boys are undefeated having played 6 games (yes only 6 games and we are in January). Their positive points differential is massive-253! Ayr are in 2 nd place in the league having played the same number of games and have a points differential of 84. We defeated Ayr 49-0. Our last league game should have been against Greenock on 26th November but that game was cancelled because of the weather and every Sunday since then has been a washout! Despite this the squad have turned up week in week out to train at Windyedge, in all conditions, on the all weather surface.
I hope that you have managed to stay with me because there is a point to all this.
We have been told that our final game has to be played by 21st Jan. It has been suggested that if the game cant be played, then a way of resolving who wins the league might be to simply toss a coin between Hawks and Ayr, all this despite our obvious dominance of the Glasgow league. Surely that cant be right?
Hopefully there will be no coin tossing and we will play next Sunday. The long term forecast is not good. I am told that the only pitches that are playable just now are the pitches used by the senior 1 st fifteens and that these are only just playable. Perhaps an exception could be made to allow a very talented and keen bunch of boys to play on one of those playable pitches and win the league rather than stand the chance of losing by the toss of a coin.
Update From U 15s
I have been contacted by John Gillies West Region Administrator from the SRU and he has asked me to point out that the “toss of the coin suggestion” was tongue in cheek. In an email received from him subsequent to that original suggestion, he apologised for any offence caused by that suggestion and he indicated that if neither ourselves our Ayr were able to play our final game because of weather problems or indeed Ayr could play and we couldn’t then there would need to be further discussion between all interested parties. There was no offence taken simply surprise expressed. The point remains that this weather is the pits and trying to play rugby at junior level from November on has been well nigh impossible this season because of the weather. The boys simply want to be given the opportunity to play and my fear is that given the present state of play(or lack thereof) that wont happen.
