According to my recollection, it was Jimmy Ireland who asked the question, "Who is it we are playing today, Ireland or Wales?".
He was travelling through to Edinburgh on the 11 o’clock train. As an accountancy student he had asked the partner in charge if he could have the Saturday morning off, because he was playing rugby for Scotland. The partner, generous to a fault – Scottish CAs have not changed much! – asked him at what time he was playing. “3 o’clock kick-off, sir”, Jimmy replied. “Oh, well”, said the partner, “you’ll be able to do a couple of hours in the office and still get to Edinburgh in time for lunch!”
Taff (I actually know a lot more about Welsh legends, probably because there are a lot more Welsh legends to know!).
