New Zealand will meet England in the cup quarterfinals at the IRB Sevens in San Diego after a clean sweep in pool play on day one.

Canada pushed New Zealand but still went down 31-19 then a 43-5 romp over Chile followed before New Zealand won an error-riddled final pool game against France 26-nil.

Also through with straight wins were Fiji and Samoa -- the finalists from the last IRB sevens tournament in Wellington.

Tomorrow Fiji play South Africa, Australia play France, Samoa play Scotland and New Zealand play England
