HAWKS 48 AYR 7

Glasgow Hawks secured a comfortable victory in Pool A of the Scottish Hydro Electric Super Cup to stay on the heels of leaders Boroughmuir.

Hawks were far more incisive than a defensively robust Ayr side and went ahead in the seventh minute when Kenny Sinclair slipped John Fitzpatrick in at the right corner.

Then, in the 20th minute, Murray Strang successfully kicked one of the few penalties being awarded under the trial rules.

He ran with the ball, drew the last line of defence and chipped to the right where Fitzpatrick executed a swallow dive to touch the ball down.

The lead became 20-0 early in the second half when Rory Kerr went over up the blind side of a five-metre scrum.

Ayr's efforts were rewarded with a try by Damian Kelly converted by AJ MacFarlane.

But when Steven Duffy touched down in 69 minutes, Ayr heads went down and Hawks added three further tries through Eric Milligan, Alan Kelly and Kerr.

Of the second-half conversions, Strang and Kerr each had two and Sinclair steered home one.
