With the confirmation last week that Max Evans is joining brother Thom at the Warriors I felt that I had to revisit my theme on the fast men out of Hughenden
In my previous note I briefly covered the exploits of Ming Campbell but he was not the only fast man who graced that green sward of Glasgow's West End
In the 1930s Hillhead H.S.F.Ps were a power in the land of Scottish rugby and they had some real pace on the wing in the form of Robin Murdoch
Robin Murdoch equalled the Scottish native record of 10.00 for 100yds in 1932 a record that had been first set by John Cowie London AC in 1884 and also had been equaled by Eric Liddell
Among his many achievements Robin won the British 220 Yards title in 1934
One of Robin's successors as Scotlands fastest man was of course Alan Wells
Maybe with the distant influence of Margot Wells may well see some more fast men emerge from Hughenden however the old adage of "if you want to be a good sprinter -choose your parents carefully" still holds good
