Scottish rugby needs commitment

Sean Lineen says a lack of long-term commitment is a huge problem for pro-rugby in Scotland
Glasgow coach Sean Lineen thinks the lack of commitment to pro rugby in Scotland means they may need government help to survive.
Sean told the Sunday Herald: "It is frustrating that we cannot compete financially, certainly cannot compete in terms of facilities which are substandard and because there is no commitment at the moment.

"There has never been any commitment to professional rugby in Scotland for any length of time. We just go year by year so you are never going to get support, you are never going to get marketing in place because there is no long-term planning. That is the big issue at the moment, that we have to have commitment. The uncertainty does not help, it is very, very frustrating but that is Scottish rugby at the moment and we have to do the best we can with what we have got.

"We have not got the playing numbers, we have not got the facilities, we need to get a bit more backing from the government.

"We need people to stand up and take notice and the only way you can make them do that is by doing something on the pitch.

"We box above our weight so often when you look at what other clubs have got and what we have got, but we have got to hang in there. What does not kill us will make us stronger."
