Warriors line up for netball challenge
The Glasgow Warriors have announced their team for the unique netball challenge to be held tomorrow (Friday 9 March) night at Kelvin Hall in Glasgow at 7.30pm.
Glasgow Warriors will take on Scotland Netball in a challenge match with the game designed to raise funds for the Scotland netball team to travel to the World Championships in New Zealand in November this year.
Head coach Sam Pinder has been putting the Warriors team through their paces this week in training for the crunch fixture. He said: "Quite surprisingly the boys have picked it up really quickly. My fiancé Anna has been really impressed so I think we're in for a good game."
On team selection, the self appointed head coach and former PE teacher Sam said: "Well, there was no scientific approach. We had a shoot-out and Andy Newman was the best so he's our shooter; it's a case of the meanest and ugliest in defence and then the quickest guys in attack.
"We're really looking forward to it. We've got some set play moves and I've done the homework on the opposition. Apart from not really knowing the rules, I think we'll struggle with their speed but we've got a clear size advantage so we'll use that as best we can," he added.
WARRIORS: Dan Turner (goal defence), Stevie Swindall (goal keeper), Colin Shaw (wing defence), Sean Marsden (centre), Colin Gregor (wing attack), Eric Milligan (goal attack), Andy Newman (goal shooter)
Bench: James Eddie, Hefin O'Hare and Max Evans
The game will start at 7.30pm and tickets are priced at £5 for adults and £2 for children and are available from the official Scotland netball site www.netballscotland.com
