Rory Lawson will lead Edinburgh’s first academy team in the Glasgow City Sevens tournament this afternoon.
Edinburgh are joined by Glasgow and Sale Sharks, and Sale’s academy side the Jets, in providing a professional gloss to the event, organised and run by Cartha Queens Park for over 50 years. In recent seasons the ambitious club has invited leading teams which has thrust the tournament among some of the best in Scotland in terms of entertainment value, however, ‘Kings of the Sevens’ Melrose and league champions Glasgow Hawks will today bid to strike a victory for the amateurs.
Edinburgh Rugby Academy: R Lawson (capt), A Strokosch, A MacDonald, R Dewey, S Lawrie, B Cairns, D McCall, G Leitch, M Couper.
First round (first tie 1pm): Glasgow Rugby Academy v GHA RFC, West of Scotland v Sale Jets, Hillhead/Jordanhill v Melrose, Glasgow Hawks v East Kilbride, Sale Sharks v Ayr, Dalziel v Scottish Universities, Greenock Wanderers v Cartha Queens Park, Edinburgh Rugby Academy v Glasgow Accies.
