Scottish Cup and Heriots
Matches between Hawks and Heriots are always great occasions and generally high scoring and entertaining. We welcome ‘the Nails’ to Anniesland today and hope for another good one. The winners of today’s match will be away to Stewarts/ Melville next Saturday.
Club Development Manager
We are delighted that with the assistance of Bank of Ireland and Scottish Rugby we are currently advertising the position of Club Development Manger who will assist in supporting all youth rugby in the associated clubs and schools as well as helping us develop rugby in local schools. The Job Ad is on the website.
Club Commercial Manger
In addition we have retained the services of Dave Millard to assist with our commercial and fund-raising activity. Sponsorship, advertising and promotions will be some of his activity when he is available to us. We also hope he might play some rugby next season having recovered from serious foot damage.
Hawks Dinner Dance
It is on Friday 25th May – and is the Social event of the Year. Tickets are already going fast. Kenny Baillie and team are the people to contact.
Pro Rugby – And Now?
The inevitable closure of one of the pro teams was announced this week. A difficult decision for all involved. But it also leaves behind a lot of questions. What is next for Scottish Rugby? Will additional resources be allocated to Edinburgh and Glasgow? What targets are there for the 2 remaining sides to maintain their Scottish Rugby subsidy? What will their relationship be with clubs? Will the Academy structure in Borders be maintained? Will they still be paying Gala a reported £50k for ground rental and putting in place an all-weather facility? Can we develop a high quality club game to support professional rugby?
What happens if the French clubs withdraw from European competition?
We have, of course, been round this particular roundabout before – 2 pro teams in 1998 before re-introducing Borders in 2001.
So where will we be in another 6 years?
