SCOTLAND U17 SQUAD NAMED FOR MILLFIELD

Scotland under-17 have completed their final selection for their development squad who leave on Sunday to take part in this season’s Millfield International Festival from 2-7 April.

The squad of 26 players will face a very demanding schedule facing France, England and Wales in the space of one week. The players have all come through a three-week preparation phase with warm-up victories against Newcastle Falcons and Merchiston Castle School.

Head Coach Grant McKelvey was very upbeat about his squad’s performances to date. However he stressed that another huge step-up in intensity awaits the players on Tuesday when Scotland U17 face France,

“The boys are now on the steepest learning curve of their rugby playing lives but we have shown that we are improving week on week. This development programme is an excellent way of exposing our potential players of the future to the demands of top-flight rugby against the best opposition we can possibly play.

“I’m expecting nothing short of a huge physical and mental test. All players will start in at least one of the fixtures where they will be tested not only against their opposition but also by the challenge they face themselves to raise their own level of performance,” McKelvey added.
