It’s derby time for the National Cup semi-finals following the draw made at Murrayfield today.

Edinburgh Accies will be at home to Boroughmuir, while West of Scotland will welcome Glasgow Hawks to Burnbrae. Both ties will be played on Saturday 21 April.

The draw was made at Murrayfield today by West of Scotland coach John Beattie and Boroughmuir openside flanker Angus Martyn, Beattie drawing the home teams, Martyn the away sides.

West, who have won promotion from Premier Division 3, will face Premier Division 1 Hawks. Beattie said: “It’s a hugely interesting draw and very scary too. I think if the season had ended last weekend (when West defeated Dundee HSFP) then everybody would have been really happy because we never thought we’d get this far.

“To play against Hawks is one of those mountains to climb because they have a hugely talented pool of players and they’re fit but we’re just going to go out and have a bit of fun.”

Edinburgh Accies, who have won promotion from Premier 2, will face Boroughmuir, three times previous National Cup winners.

Martyn’s reaction to the draw was upbeat. “Edinburgh Accies are a strong side and they’re obviously in the habit of winning, so it’s going to be a tough game. But at this stage if you want to win the cup you have to be prepared to beat any team,” he added.

The semi-final draw of the National Shield is:

Garnock or Marr v Ardrossan Accies or Cumbernauld
(Falkirk or Dalziel) or Musselburgh v Annan or Irvine

Catch-up ties due to be played this Saturday (14 April) are: Garnock v Marr; Ardrossan Accies v Cumbernauld; Falkirk v Dalziel; and Annan v Irvine.

The semi-final draws for the National Bowl and National Plate competitions had been made previously. Semi-final ties are due to be played on Saturday 21 April.

They are: National Bowl semi-finals –
Dumfries v Glenrothes or East Kilbride
Hillfoots or Waysiders Drumpellier v Kilmarnock or Morgan Acad FP

The three outstanding quarter-final ties are due to be played this Saturday (14 April)

Glenrothes v East Kilbride; Hillfoots v Waysiders/Drumpellier; and Kilmarnock v Morgan Acad FP

National Plate semi-finals –

GHK v Ross Sutherland
Aberdeen Univ v Crieff & Strathearn

Scottish Rugby’s Cup Finals Day takes place at Murrayfield Stadium on Saturday 5 May. There are four finals – Plate, Bowl, Shield and Cup, two women’s finals and a huge touch tournament.
