BETTER LATE THAN NEVER

FROM VICTORIA PARK-GLASGOW WEBSITE

In May of 2006, Andy Little whose uncle was a past Secretary of the Milngavie Highland Games Committee found a trophy in her loft. The trophy was made in recognition of Willie Jacks participation in the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki, Finland, where he reached the semi final of the 100m.

Unfortunately for the Highland Games Committee, Willie was in great demand when he returned to Scotland and was unable to collect the trophy in person. The presentation was originally postponed and eventually forgotten about until Anne found the trophy in her loft 54 years later.

Anne Little contacted our past President Hugh Barrow and with the help of Bobby Quinn who spoke to Willie at our 75th Anniversary Dinner, he was traced to West Kilbride.

Finally in November 2006, Willie received his silver trophy from Anne Little. Well done Anne and congratulations Willie.

Footnote from Ed
It was Willie Jack that encouraged Andy Little to take up rugby and as is said the rest is history
Anne actually found two trophies the second was for David Gracie who represented GB in the 1952 Olympics alongside Willie Jack--David competed in the 400 hurdles Now a retired Vet we also tracked him down to the Barnton area of Edinburgh
Worth noting that David set a UK record for 440 yds Hurdles in 1952 of 52.7 slightly faster than Liam McDermid ran at weekend
