Barnes blames Murrayfield dressing-room for defeat

Barnes blames Murrayfield dressing-room for defeat

EDINBURGH ACCIES coach Ian Barnes claimed the home dressing room at Murrayfield played a part in his side's defeat in this season's Scottish rugby cup final earlier this month.

According to ex-internationalist, Barnes, his charges were tentative in losing to Glasgow Hawks because they were "overawed" by the cavernous size of the room and "couldn't hear the team talk". "I wouldn't like to be running out on to Murrayfield from that dressing room because the players sit in stalls it's so big," he said.

"Players couldn't hear what was being said and it contributed to a tentative performance.

"For our next Murrayfield Final I want Accies to change in a cupboard rather than that massive room used by Scotland."

Barnes was speaking as Accies collected a £500 prize and commemorative plaque for being named Scottish Hydro Electric club of the month.
