FIVE TRY SCOTS SOAR PAST CANADA

Scotland 7s recorded their second win in two games at the Emirates Airline Edinburgh 7s this afternoon as they ran in five tries against Canada.

Head coach Stephen Gemmell said: “We showed that when we stick to our patterns of play, we can beat any team in this competition.

“We are now looking to finish either first or second in our pool so we can really enjoy playing against South Africa in front of such a great home support.”

Roddy Grant, whose work-rate has impressed the Murrayfield crowd, added: “We had a good start against Russia, but we still made some mistakes.

“We wanted to come out firing against Canada and we did. They are a team that can turn good sides over so it was really positive for us to put in such a clinical performance.”

As little as 52 seconds has past on the stadium clock before Ben Cairns burst through defence virtually untouched to score under the posts. Mike Adamson added the conversion.

Cairns’ try was followed up by some terrific link-up play from Colin Gregor and Ben Cairns, however, the final pass from Gregor was deemed forward and play was brought back.

Kris Witkowski soon brought Canada back into the game with a try three minutes later as he successfully slipped out of the grasp of Gregor.

In the last play of the first half, Scotland found themselves seeking options inside their own 22. Mark Robertson threw a wild pass out wide, but luckily the challenge from Canada to grab the interception came to no avail and Mike Adamson burst up the left wing to score under the posts. He converted his own try.

Three and a half minutes into the second half, Scotland crossed the try-line again.

Following some great controlled, multi-phase rugby, Mark Robertson broke through two tackles on the wing to cross the whitewash. Adamson couldn’t convert from out wide on the left.

Just inside the last minute of play, hard work at the breakdown soaked in enough Canadians to open up a huge gap around the fringes of the ruck.

Ben Addison scooped the ball up and ran in unchallenged.

In the final passage of play, an ecstatic Colin White ran in at the corner for his first try of the 2006/07 IRB Sevens World Series. Adamson converted.
