THE SCOTSMAN REPORTS
DAVID FERGUSON
GLASGOW will return to Firhill next season to avoid clashing with a proposed new housing scheme, which may force a return to some Sunday matches.
The team have enjoyed a growing support at Hughenden but the ground is owned by Hillhead Sports Club, who are trying to sell of some of the land for housing as early as the forthcoming season. The SRU has rented Firhill from owners Partick Thistle FC in the past, which has meant moving from Friday nights to avoid affecting the pitch for Saturday football.
Supporters are split on the loss of the smaller rugby venue against Firhill's better facilities and pitch surface. A redeveloped Scotstoun remains a long-term possibility. The SRU stated only: "We hope to make an announcement this week."
