Next Thursday Rory Mackay,Davie MacNeil and Donnie MacLaren are tackling Ben Nevis-Scafell Pike-Snowdon and Carrantuohill all within 24c hours for the Wooden Spoon Society

Now in its 18th year, 60 teams will take part in the Wooden Spoon Four Peaks Challenge in the summer of 2007, climbing four of the highest peaks in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales – all within 48 hours. The aim is to raise money for Wooden Spoon.
For the second year, the event is running the Four Peaks Corporate Challenge Award. This year, accountants Deloitte, along with international law firm Clifford Chance and the global agrifood business, Cargill, have jointly issued a challenge to other businesses in the UK and Ireland.

Spoon is seeking 15 corporate teams of three climbers and a support driver to compete against each other and the other 45 teams in the Challenge. Each team will need to raise at least £15,000.

Points will be awarded for a combination of funds raised and climbing times on each mountain, and the winner will receive the coveted Four Peaks Corporate Challenge Award.

Corporate and Social responsibilities (CSR) in the business world come in many shapes and sizes. The government definition of CSR states: ‘Essentially it is about how business takes account of its economic, social and environmental impacts in the way it operates - in other words how to maximise the benefits and minimise the downsides of operating within the wider community.

We see CSR as the voluntary actions that business can take, over and above compliance with minimum legal requirements, to address both its own competitive interests and the interests of wider society.

Business and society are interdependent. The wellbeing of one depends on the wellbeing on the other. Companies engaged in CSR are reporting benefits to their reputation and their bottom line.’

“Today more than ever before successful firms like ours need to demonstrate our commitment to the communities around us,” says Stephen Fitzmaurice, Communications Manager at Clifford Chance.

“The Corporate Challenge allows us to do just that. And more. It’s a unique combination of fun, teamwork and endeavour. We also get to deepen the longstanding relationship we enjoy with Spoon and we know that the monies raised will have a real impact, giving youngsters the chances in life they deserve.”

The Corporate Challenge is a fantastic opportunity for your organisation to fulfill your Corporate and social responsibilities:
Get to know colleagues better in an environment that’s a world away from the office
Hugely enjoyable and mightily exhilarating - with stunning backdrops all the way – the Challenge is diligently-planned, safety-conscious and extremely well-run
Raise funds that give disadvantaged children the chance in life they deserve
Strong corporate branding/publicity opportunities on team shirts and vehicles
Competitive yet friendly: whether you are ‘in it to win it’, or there to take the climbing in your stride, the fun of taking part comes first
Participation in Spoon Challenges either as part of the Corporate Challenge or as an individual corporate team in any other spoon event is assisting the company you work for in fulfilling its corporate and social responsibilities
