Border League clubs will back the proposal to regionalise the Scottish Hydro Electric National Cup competition in the forthcoming season when the matter is debated at Scottish Rugby's agm later this month.
At the SRU's agm on June 29, clubs will be asked to vote on a motion to allow for the cup to be played on a regional basis to the round before Premiership clubs enter.
The motion also gives clubs the option to support four regional cup competitions to be played in Edinburgh, Borders, West and Caledonia with the winners qualifying for the Scottish Hydro Electric National Cup semi-finals.
An amendment from Glasgow Hawks, seconded by Dundee HSFP, does not allow for the regional cup competitions.
Border League president John Davidson (Jed-Forest) said: "Border League clubs have discussed the issue and we feel it would be a positive step forward.
"It would mean greater local competition, which fans tend to like, with the consequent boost to clubs' income.
