Clubs 'fed-up' of SRU feud

Clubs 'fed-up' of SRU feud with Edinburgh, says Watt

BOROUGHMUIR president Stan Watt believes the latest skirmish between the SRU and Edinburgh Rugby has distanced the governing body even further from the clubs it purports to represent.

Recently-elected SRU president George Jack yesterday raised the stakes in the ongoing feud when he wrote to clubs, attempting to appease them over concerns that the cost of legal action will further diminish the already meagre funding distributed by Murrayfield chiefs, but outlining the intention to resolve the dispute with the professional outfit in court.

Like many other observers, Watt finds the whole situation tiresome and rather than take a view on which of the two warring factions may be in the right, he is focusing his efforts on 'Muir as they build up to the new season.

"Clubs rely on unpaid volunteers to work their socks off to make their clubs as successful as possible. These guys (SRU and Edinburgh) are just making a mockery of the game.

"We feel that the SRU haven't supported clubs for a while. Look at Currie, for instance. They received no money for winning the league.

"We are all fed up with this nonsense. It just seems to go on and on and on.

"This letter is just more of the same. Both Gordon McKie and Alex Carruthers are successful businessmen. They must have had solicitors involved and they must know what they have signed.

"At Boroughmuir, we are looking forward to the season and we are focusing on that."
