A wretched start to the season for Hawks continued as they were toppled by Melrose at the Greenyards.
Flanker William Wallace was the home hero with a try double in the Premiership Division One clash, the other touchdowns coming from Calum Anderson and Richard Higgins.
Scott Wight also played a big part as he landed three conversions and two penalties.
Stuart Smith, Stuart Low and Gary Strain responded for Hawks, with Mike Adamson's four successful kicks helping to salvage a consolation bonus point.
