MAX TAKES UP ARMS AT ARMS PARK

Max Evans starts for Glasgow
Glasgow Warriors have named their team for the Magners League clash with the Cardiff Blues on Friday (ko 6.10pm).
Brothers Max and Thom Evans will appear in the same team for the first time since their school days as the Glasgow Warriors launch their 2007/08 Magners League campaign against the Blues at the Arms Park.

The Evans brothers last played together in 2001 when they lifted the Roslyn Park 7s title with Wellington College.

Speaking about their selection, which sees the pair on the wings, Max said: “It’s something that you visualise when your playing in the back yard as kids, like setting one another up for a try.

”Being given the opportunity to play alongside my brother has been in the back of my mind during training for a long time. I’ve been working really hard, so to get my first start for Glasgow on the other wing as Thom is a big deal for me.”

Younger brother Thom added: “It was great playing at school together. We know each others game really well because it’s something we talk about a lot at home. I’m looking forward to the game immensely and hope it’ll be a successful night all round.”

Elsewhere, five other new signings will make their Glasgow debuts. Argentine fullback Bernardo Stortoni features in the back-line alongside All Black centre Daryl Gibson and Australia 7s scrum-half Chris O’Young.

In the pack, prop Michael Collins and flanker Richie Vernon also get their first start in Warriors colours

Glasgow head coach, Sean Lineen, commented: “The boys just can’t wait for the season to start. I’ll be looking for a big game from our pack and our half-backs.

“We have an exciting blend of youth and experience and it’ll be interesting to see how the Evans brothers go on the wings.”
