SEAN FITZPATRICK'S ANNIESLAND CONNECTION

Last night's Yorkhill Dinner was a resounding success raising approximately £50,000 for the Medicinema--Yorkhill

Chaired by John Beattie the guest speakers were All Black legend Sean Fitzpatrick and Welsh hero Gareth Edwards
During Sean's delivery on the theme of what it took to be an All Black he revealed that his father had toured Britain with the 1953-54 All Blacks--long tours in those days They lost two matches both in Wales to Cardiff(Glasgow's opponents tonight) and to Wales
Its a small world for on a foggy Tuesday in November 1953 a bus pulled up on Helensburgh Drive outside where John Beattie now lives and Bob Stuart's All Blacks including Sean's father trooped out for a training session at New Anniesland
To a young observer they were giants including a full back called Bob Scott who during the session did some of his kicking in bare feet (not composition balls but heavy leather back then)
The following day saw the All Blacks at Old Anniesland with Sean's father in the team beating a combined Edinburgh-Glasgow team 23-3.The Cities team included Donald Cameron and Hamish Kemp from Glasgow HSFP and Alan Waddell and Hamish Dawson fom Glasgow Accies
