THE HERALD REPORTS

Stirling County 19 - 20 Glasgow Hawks
MARTIN LAING October 08 2007
CommentIf County are to survive in the top flight, they will have to find a cutting edge in the backs to augment the pack's good work. They were much the better side in the first period of this tense encounter and probably deserved more than their slim 12-10 lead.

Given the somewhat parlous league positions of both these sides before the onset of hostilities, it was always likely that this would be an error-strewn affair, and so it turned out. However, it was Hawks head coach David Wilson who turned his side around. Amending his tactics at the interval to a tighter game plan, his charges dominated their hosts during the second period and deserved this narrowest of wins.

Wilson was "delighted" to take the points, while County's Ian Jardine was left muttering darkly about "too many stupid mistakes" by his team. He was not wrong.

Both these sides have been diminished by injuries and should improve with the restoration of key personnel. For County, especially, that can't come soon enough.
