EDINBURGH EVENING NEWS REPORTS

FRESH calls are being made for traditional Scottish rugby clubs to be involved in second-tier European competition next season.
The plea comes from a former secretary of the Premiership umbrella organisation and current president of Glasgow Hawks, Kenny Hamilton. Writing on the club's website, Hamilton speaks of possible obstacles to the European option.
He insisted: "Surely it would be worth injecting a bit of ambition back into club rugby?"
Hamilton's concerns centre on the length of the existing season, but this is balanced against the need to get as many Scots as possible playing cross-border rugby. He pointed out: "Following the demise of Borders, Scotland's two remaining pro-teams participate in the Heineken Cup this season with no representative in the Trophy."
Hamilton also claims plans exist to expand the club international programme with matches against Wales as well as Ireland.
