CLUB PREVIEW BY PHALL

Week 7 Preview
Hawks need more from their pack
Well, Glasgow Hawks won narrowly at Stirling County last week, despite dominating the second half they ended hanging on by the skin of their “cheeks”.
The side continue to struggle to find any continuity and really need the forwards to start taking a bit of responsibility.

Meanwhile, Ayr drew with GHA, with destruction derby hero Jimmy Noonan haunting his former club scoring 11 of GHA's 16 points.

Scotland's return may see some press focus coming to the domestic scene but only time will tell…

Premier One

Currie v GHA
Whilst Currie have blown hot and cold, GHA have basically blown cold. The weather forecast for Saturday can be bleak but at Malleny it is always that little bit bleaker. GHA will take a bit of a mauling which could see Currie back on track.

Glasgow Hawks v Watsonians
Sonians home defeat to Melrose, no bonus either, was a shock last week and sees the Myreside side in 6th place having won and lost 3. A couple of weeks ago I’d have thought Hawks would lose this, after toughing it out against County they have a very good chance of winning this. It will be a hard fought match but a win would see them leapfrog Sonians. I’m not expecting anything other than blood, sweat and tears…

Edinburgh Accies v Ayr
Speaking to Ian Jardine last week, he expressed a level of surprise at Accies poor results. However, he added the caveat that their rampage last season had been led by the forwards and there were many more packs in Premier 1 capable of competing with them. Ayr have just such a pack and some backs as well and whilst Accies were lucky against Dundee last week, their luck will run out with the visit of Ayr.

Premier Two

Haddington v Hillhead-Jordanhill
Haddington lost to Selkirk last week allowing West to go top. Great for West but it puts 3 sides on 5 wins. Hills have failed to win this year having lost to fellow strugglers at Kelso. No miracles here Haddington should pick up 5 points.

Cartha QP v Biggar
Guess what a Glasgow derby. CQP were easily seen off by West last week and could struggle against a Biggar side who fought out a fairly tough draw with Jed last week. Although they are a great club you have to think that the Lanarkshire side will outmuscle the Southsiders.

Aberdeen Grammar v West of Scotland
A home win against Musselburgh emphasised the difficulty that visiting sides have at Aberdeen. Burgh failed to trouble the scorekeeper and grammar ran in 36 points. West will be a different proposition but it is a difficult fixture and I wouldn’t be surprised if they struggle.

Jed v Hamilton
Jed and Hamilton are part of a mid-table bunch, but this should see Jed put a bit of distance between themselves and Hamilton. They may even be capable of taking 5 points from this.

Premier Three

Ardrossan Accies v Perthshire
Ardrossan took a real hiding at Gala conceding 60 points and allowing Gala to send out a message to the rest of the Borders. It took Accies from 2nd place back into the body of the Kirk and left the Maroons. Accies should win this although Perthshire shouldn’t be underestimated. Home advantage will win out.

Livingston v Irvine
Irvine finally won a match and in some style last week. There were 4 games which saw more than 50 points were scored and Irvine won 72 – 5 against Murrayfield. Livingston shipped 76 against Kirkcaldy. Home advantage should see a much lower scoring game.
