Shawlands 3 GHK 107
Note from Ed. – disregard the scores on the Hawks website – Hugh is demonstrating the problems of arithmetic for the over sixties. Hawks did not lose by scoring 10 points more than Watsonians and he exaggerates the Shawlands total !! He’s not alone in having difficulty counting this week as our very own Esso remains convinced that GHK scored seven more points than the result confirms – an accounting error to match the very worst of the Enron affair.
sub note to GHK Ed--the result for the GHK match was sourced from the official SRU website so one hopes it is accurate
There was no match report last week as GHK did not play; instead they stood and watched as Glasgow Uni put points on the board. This, of course, was part of a cunning plan to make our way into the Plate competition won so heroically at Murrayfield last season - all doubters who thought we were out on our ear should be ashamed.
To the match itself. Shawlands kicked off and the first action of the game saw their prop retire and uncontested scrums for the duration. Difficult to say if this helped or hindered GHK as the following ensued :
3 minutes – Whyte scored in the corner, Criggie converted
11 minutes – Hoffman scored, Criggie converted
18 minutes – Criggie scored and converted
20 minutes – Wilmot scored
25 minutes – Fraser scored, Criggie converted
30 minutes – McConnel scored, Criggie converted
33 minutes – Hoffman scored
35 minutes – Gossman scored
Half time break and match report from Hampden – Scotland winning
42 minutes – Forbes scored (later fined heavily for kicking – props don’t do that)
45 minutes – Cram scored, Criggie converted
49 minutes – Smith scored (the easiest he’ll ever get), Criggie converted
54 minutes – Woolard scored, Criggie converted
58 minutes – Shawlands score with a drop goal, the best score of the game
65 minutes – Cameron scored (should have earlier but we’ll let him off)
68 minutes – Whyte scored, Criggie converted
72 minutes – Parker scored, Criggie converted
75 minutes – Woolard hits the ton
78 minutes – Lohar scored, Criggie converted
80 minutes – President Munro drops a case of Stella, Criggie is distraught
81 minutes – most of the Stella is salvaged
100 minutes – Scotland win
A great result - just need to win all our other games now.
News from Anniesland is that Cammy Little came through a warm up in the Hawks 2s and is ready for action on the bigger stage (Cumnock beckons).
At the post match inquest Kenny Fraser was awarded the little red dress as he has the best legs.
