MURRAYFIELD WANDERERS have appointed Scotland under-18 rugby guru and former B internationalist, George Breckenridge, as first-team coach.

The ex-GHK stand off will take up the reins in succession to Bruce Macnaughton, who has moved on but says he still hopes to be involved in the game next season. In another coaching switch also affecting BT Premiership Division Two clubs, Cliff Livingstone will join the backroom at Edinburgh Acads having parted company with Haddington.

For Breckenridge the Wanderers post is a chance to re-establish a "sleeping giant" on the club scene.

"I view Wanderers as a club steeped in history and the aim is to quickly climb from the third bottom spot last time out because league re-construction will mean three teams going down.

"The potential exists to move forward quickly and I look forward to combining the club role with working alongside Henry Edwards and Graham Marshall at under-18 level."

Previously in charge at Ayr from 2001-04 Breckenridge, who was a member of the B side in 1990, will continue to live in Glasgow but does not see travelling as a problem.

He added: "My job as a sales rep takes me around the country so travelling is not a new experience."
