GHK MATCH REPORT

Cumbernauld 27 GHK 12

This game proved the old adage; that forwards win games, backs determine the margin of victory.
GHK’s cause was hindered from the start by the non-appearance of Nezza who failed to follow the golden rule that a gallon the night before a game is sufficient. Twenty minutes into the game saw the loss of Murray Wiseman, injured with no one near him - there must be a sniper in Cumbernauld as well as Anniesland.
The loss of the first scrum against the head set the scene for the domination the Cumbernauld pack would exert throughout; lineouts were lost and loose possession turned over with depressing regularity. With a total monopoly of the ball, Cumbernauld amassed a thirteen point lead by half time. Ten minutes into the second half it was 20-0 and GHK were finally stung into action, playing the high tempo game which the occasion demanded. Danny Hoffman scored in the corner for 20-5 and McT (now playing at wing forward) finished off a storming run by touching down under the posts with Bill Criggie converting to make the score 20-12. With GHK now chasing an unlikely victory, an attempt to run a penalty from the ‘22’ went wrong when possession was lost allowing Cumbernauld to score a converted try for a 27-12 victory and a bonus point.
