When Carrick flogged the Park
In 1885 JS Carrick scored 419 not out for the West of Scotland against Priory Park at Chichester, and thus passed Roe's world record of 415 made four years earlier. Carrick, a left-hander, was one of the best cricketers ever produced by Scotland, although in fact he was a genuine all-round sportsman - a double international - and played in few important cricket matches. He was the one batsman to take a century off Notts between 1887 and 1890 - an indication of his quality.
