ADAMSON IN AGAINST WALES

Scotland have made two changes in their pack for their semi-final clash with Wales in the section competing for fifth-eighth place in the IRB under-21 World Championship in Argentina tomorrow (Tuesday 21 June).

Stuart Corsar, the Aberdeen GSFP prop, returns after a hamstring injury, while squad captain Neil Cochrane is restored to openside flanker in place of Alan MacDonald who has a shoulder knock.

It will be the third time that Scotland have faced Wales in the last three months. They lost in the shadow Six Nations Championship 7-31 and again in the pool stages in Mendoza last week, 8-24.

“We are quite positive about facing Wales again. It will give us an indication of what sort of progress we’re making,” said the Scots’ head coach Iain Paxton. “In our last game against Wales we didn’t function as well as we did against Australia in our opening game but we are optimistic going into this game.”

Scotland bounced back from their loss to Wales with a 52-20 success against Canada thus securing them involvement in the middle tier competition, ranking ahead of England and Ireland, the latter involved in the 9th-12th place competition.

“Last time against Wales we had ample opportunities to get points on the board in the first-half but we did not take them,” Paxton reflected.

Paxton knows that the Scots have improved their rankings from last year’s competition where they finished tenth. If they can beat Wales at Mendoza RFC tomorrow then they will face the winner of Argentina’s match against England to determine fifth place.
