Glasgow Warriors head coach, Sean Lineen, is looking for his side to get back on track and find their momentum once again as they return to Firhill Arena for their first game of 2008, against Newport Gwent Dragons tomorrow night (ko 7:30pm).
The Warriors were unbeaten at home since the first week in January last year, whether at their old ground Hughenden or at The Arena, but Sean stresses this week’s new-look 22 is far from experimental.
“Despite a few injuries in the backs,” Sean said, “the selection reflects players that are putting their hands up for places. We’ve also picked a pack that will deliver.”
Asked whether he is resting key players ahead of the Warriors’ Heineken Cup clash away to Viadana next week, Sean replied: “Tomorrow night’s game is huge for us. It’s all about momentum. We need to get back on track after a few disappointing results.
“Games against the Dragons have always been tough and this one will be especially so since their last minute win over Llanelli. We need to be really switched on and not look too far ahead.”
Although Warriors captain Alastair Kellock features on the bench, he will remain the club captain with Dan Parks looking after the captaincy duties whilst on the field.
The Warriors and the Dragons have met on eight previous occasions with Glasgow victorious just once (48-20 at Hughenden in March 2004).
The Dragons were in fact the last Welsh region to win in Glasgow, doing so 24-23 at Hughenden on 1 September 2006.
Ticket’s for tomorrow night’s game are priced at £15 for adults and £5 for concessions (under 18s, students and OAPs) and can be purchased by calling the Ticket Hotline on 0844 800 3490.
