Two former Hawks in Student RL Squad

Calum Morrison and Andy Macphail in Squad

McPhail, who scored with his first touch on his Scotland debut in the European Nations Cup win over Wales last October, is joined by Napier University team-mates Mike Wallace, Lee Spence and Barry Earl. Currie winger Flockhart, who played in Scotland Under-21s shock win over England recently, has been a regular for Scotland Students Rugby League for several seasons and been capped by Scotland A.

Scotland face an extremely tough group, opening against holders New Zealand and ending against the hosts Australia, with Wales in between. “We are the outsiders but I think it’s a fantastic draw for us,” said coach Phil Slaney from Peebles. “If you are going to the other side of the world, you want to be playing the big guns and we are. Australia and New Zealand don’t know much about us and will think we’re just making up the numbers but we have an experienced, well-balanced squad who have played together for a while now. I think we can cause an upset, especially in the first game.”
