GRAEME BACK IN SQUAD

Scots recall Paterson and Brown

Paterson and Brown came off the bench on Sunday
Chris Paterson and Kelly Brown have been recalled to Scotland's starting line-up for Saturday's Six Nations visit to Wales.
Paterson, controversially left on the bench for Sunday's 27-6 defeat by France, will replace the injured Rory Lamont at full-back.

And Brown, who also came on as a replacement at Murrayfield, will be at number eight in place of David Callam.

Lock Nathan Hines has recovered from a calf injury suffered on Sunday.

The Perpignan forward did not train on Tuesday as Scotland coach Frank Hadden delayed naming his team by 24 hours because of injury fears.

But Hines will play at the Millennium Stadium, becoming the 23rd Scot to reach the landmark of 50 caps.

We believed last week we could win in Cardiff and that still remains the case

Scotland coach Frank Hadden

Hadden was eventually forced into just one change, Lamont having picked up shoulder and ankle knocks in Sunday's defeat.

Paterson introduced an extra cutting edge when replacing Dan Parks at fly-half in the second half against France.

But he has been preferred to Hugo Southwell as Hadden sought to fill the number 15 shirt.

Paterson will become Scotland's most-capped back, surpassing the 82 achieved by his fellow product of the Gala club, Gregor Townsend.

Hadden said: "We believed last week we could win in Cardiff and that still remains the case.

"Obviously, we've had a dent to our confidence, but the squad are now doubly determined to travel to Wales and battle for everything we can get to win on Saturday."

Replacing Paterson and Brown among the substitutes are Glasgow Warriors centre Graeme Morrison and Edinburgh back-row forward Allister Hogg.

The 25-year-old Morrison won the last of his six caps four years ago but was in try-scoring form for the Scotland A team in their win in Italy at the weekend.

Former skipper Andy Nicol had earlier urged Hadden to resist the temptation to make sweeping changes ahead of the Cardiff trip, despite the widely criticised performance at home to France.

"I'd certainly stick with Dan Parks at stand-off," Nicol told BBC Sport. "He deserves another shot at it.

"I thought it was a good selection on Sunday, as most people did. They just didn't play well.

"Scotland have lost key momentum, but I'd give the same players another chance to redeem themselves.

"They must cut out the error rate and put in a much better performance."
