Scotland 7s will now face Argentina in the Plate semi-finals having been knocked out of the Cup competition in the quarter-final stages by Samoa.

James Thompson was the man to strike first for Scotland and Mike Adamson ensured that the Scots took maximum points with the conversion.

Samoa then came back with two tries, one converted, to lead 12-7 at the break.

Scott Newlands then crossed the line, Adamson converting again before Samoa sealed the victory with two late tries, the second a result of Scotlands last ditch attempt to win the game.

After the game, Scotland 7s coach Stephen Gemmell said: There are a lot of positives to take from that game. We were a lot better than our day two performance last week.

It was just the little inaccuracies in key areas that cost us dearly.
