With the news that Glasgow Accies are to face the aristocrats of Goldenacre Heriots on Saturday one wonders if the authorities will consider running special trains for supporters
This may seem that your scribe has lost his marbles but that's exactly what happened at one time
Not only were special trains put on from Edinburgh it was normal for k.o. times to be put back to allow the crowds from the "land of you will have had your tea" into Anniesland-that's because on occasions 10,000 would turn up
This clash was recognised as the game of the season with even the English press encouraging fans to board trains north to see how rugby should be played.
On one such occasion the bold Accies donned the the colours of Hearts maroon as their change strip-- Grainy press photos of the day give an idea of the atmosphere down Helensburgh Drive way
In the 1925-26 season the match had to be transferred from Goldenacre to Inverleith then the international ground to accomodate the 18,000 crowd that turned up --would Andy Robinson not welcome a throng like that!.This stood as a clubattendance record for 70 years until Cup Finals Day came to Murrayfield in the mid 1990s
