Glasgow's John Barclay who played with Hawks and GHK for the first part of last season has had a successful time on his John Macphail scholarship at Marists St Pats in Wellington, New Zealand.
John helped Marist St Pats Seniors win the Harper Lock Shield with 11 wins from 11 games. They now go on to play in the Hardham Cup competition.
John Macphail won two caps for Scotland in 1949 and South Africa in 1951.
He died last summer, having been chairman and chief executive of the Edrington Group, a firm owned by the Robertson Trust. On his death fellow Trustees decided to create a scholarship in his name.
The scholarship covers John's accommodation, travel and other expenses during his three-month stint in New Zealand.
