Glasgow Hawks Rugby Club Tangent Graphic

it's not for the sake of the ribboned coat,

The first GHK-Accies match took place on September 4 1982 at Old Anniesland
GHK won this first encounter 13-4--(4 points for a try then)
Among the early pioneers was Stewart Macauley(prime mover in setting up the David Gilmore Trophy match)- one of a small elite band of brothers who have pulled on Glasgow High colours GHK colours and not so well known even Accies colours.

When that last fact was exclusively revealed on this site last year it caused global interest to the extent that some chap with an Old Anniesland background contacted the Arnold Clark Organisation from the Australian Outback to confirm the story

Stewart Macauley has not been alone in regard to Old Annieslanders pulling on Accies colours there have been others although in their defence it has to be said it was not exactly their first choice. Our Hall of Fame gallery reveals some of these splendid fellows

The first points that GHK ever scored came from the boot of John Hodgkinson the only Englishman on the park.
The winning GHK team list read--David Brown,John Hodgkinson,Ewan Cameron,David Halliday,Gordon McClymont,,Dougie Macdonald,Norman Mottram,Stewart Macauley,David Gilmore fom Old Anniesland and Donald Wilson,David Michie,Graeme Ogilvy,Donald Macivor and Colin White from Balgray-the last player being Bruce Rankin who had joined from Jordonhill RFC

Over the years there have been many stirring contests but non so bizarre than when in the mid 90s Accies chose on one occasion to change at New Anniesland although the game was being played at Old Anniesland.Accies at that time were being coached by famed New Zealander Kevin Greene
The Accies fielded such as Gordon Mackay,Calum Macgregor, and Chas "usual spelling "Afuakwah and a fledgling called Glenn Metcalfe ,whilst GHK had the likes of Walter Malcolm and Fergus Wallace.Accies led at half time but GHK came back in the second half for a memorable win and Accies had to troop back to New Anniesland to change and think again

This year sees Accies going for a hatrick of wins in the David Gilmore Series so much is at stake this Friday evening K.O. 7.00 p.m.

And it's not for the sake of the ribboned coat,
Or the selfish hope of a season's fame,
But his Captain's hand on his shoulder smote -
'Play up ! play up ! and play the game !'
