KENNY'S COLUMN

A regular programme feature that keeps you up to date with rugby and club issues and news by Kenny Hamilton.

(These might be the views Glasgow Hawks).

Currie
Last season’s champions Currie have had to settle for mid-table this term but will be keen to lift their form in preparation for their tough cup match against Ayr next week. Welcome to coach Ally Donaldson, the team and their President Brian Buckner who will arrive in the ‘Committee Lexus’ (yes, they seriously have a sponsored car) at Old Anniesland today.
Looking to the Future
The Development squad had an excellent win over Italian side Viadana’s Academy Players some of whom are on apprentice-style contracts last week. The opportunity to bring these young players together to play quality opposition of this kind is beginning to pay dividends already. This young team played some terrific rugby against a powerful side and were drawn from the Associate Clubs and schools. Well done to development officer Grant Talbot, and coaches Henry Gray and Glenn Woolard. Consideration is now being given to playing the return match in Italy.

Add to this a very youthful Hawks 2nd team which beat Ayr 2s 38-16 last week. It included a raft of youngsters in the form of John Goldie, Alex Smith, James Cuthbertson, a young John Fitzpatrick (17) Kenny Fraser, Riley (18) Scott Loudon (17) and my man of the match Ally Maxwell and the future is looking a little more promising. It was old man Sean Murray (21 or 22) who scored 4 tries to take the headlines.
