MELROSE SEVENS DRAW

Scotland avoid China rematch

Scottish Thistles have been spared a potentially embarrassing rematch with China on home soil after the draw for the 125th Melrose Sevens was made yesterday.

Scotland Sevens coach Stephen Gemmell saw his team humbled 19-12 by the host nation in the Hong Kong Sevens on Saturday, but have been given a bye into the second round where they will play Langholm or Currie.

The Chinese will face either Jed-Forest of Hawick in round two under the name of the Chinese Agricultural University in Beijing.

Other notable entrants to the 12 April event include Leicester Tigers and holders Shimlas from South Africa.
