Mike Blackie refused to be downhearted

THE HERALD REPORTS

HERIOT'S coach Bob McKillop rejected the notion that the delayed Premiership clash with Hawks had been a meaningless exercise.

Instead, he labelled the tussle as the ideal rehearsal for the looming SHE Cup meeting with Ayr at Millbrae. "I suppose in many ways the game did not have much meaning in a competitive sense," said McKillop. "However, with the Ayr match coming up it was important to get a decent performance under our belts.

"I could not fault the enthusiasm of the lads, though perhaps they missed a few tackles that should have been made."

Hawks spokesman Mike Blackie refused to be downhearted in spite of another disappointing result. "It was actually a huge improvement on recent performances," he said.

"Our defence was good and our rucking was much better. A few forward passes and dropped balls pointed to a lack of composure at key times and that is something we have to eliminate before next season. It has been a tricky campaign but it is all about preparation for next year."

Tries by Andy Douglas, Jon Alston, Richard Mill and Colin Goiudie made sure of the bonus point for the capital troops, with Graham Wilson converting three times.

Neil Caddell ploughed in for two Hawks tries, the others claimed by Sean Murray and Eric Milligan. Ian Noble added a conversion and penalty.
