Afternoon all,
Ally Maclay and I are organising and undertaking a challenging expedition in October 2008. We're planning on climbing the 3 highest peaks in Africa in 3 weeks in October to raise funds for the Balcraig Foundation. This will follow a 4-month secondment from June - September 2008 through my employer Bank of Scotland Corporate, which involves working in Thomas Barnardo House (TBH) Orphanage in Nairobi, which is supported by the Balcraig Foundation. TBH is the home of over 180 orphaned, abandoned and destitute children, including around thirty babies. TBH staff work hard to provide a "family" atmosphere so that the children have a sense of belonging. The home is a safe, happy place to live. The goal is to raise young men and women who have everything they need to survive in Kenya and the wider world in a positive way. TBH has introduced several commercial projects to increase self sufficiency, particularly with the Home’s finances, and this will be my main area of focus during my secondment. Ally hopes to work in the home for 2 weeks before our expedition, teaching the children sports and supplying sports equipment.
